Qualitative Evaluation of Spatiotemporal Reasoning in Performances

چکیده
There are limited capabilities for automatically blocking a scene in a virtual environment today. Current techniques for moving characters include Behavior Markup Language (BML) and motion capture files (mocap). However these methods require either detailed technical knowledge, or are not reusable in more than one scene. In our previous work, we block a play utilizing only a play-script and performed quantitative analyses. In this paper, we apply some of those techniques for blocking a scene (Natural Language Processing), and obtain end-user evaluations of the quality of the spatial positioning of the characters. To accomplish this, we created a new survey to qualitatively evaluate the spatiotemporal reasoning within a performance. With this qualitative tool, we compare our hand-mapped baseline from the 1964 production of Hamlet on Broadway to a natural language processing approach to blocking a performance.

A Qualitative Spatio-Temporal Framework Based on Point Algebra
Knowledge Representation and Reasoning has been quite successfull in dealing with the concepts of time and space separately. However, not much has been done in designing qualitative spatiotemporal representation formalisms, let alone reasoning systems for that formalisms. We introduce a qualitative constraint-based spatiotemporal framework using Point Algebra (PA), that allows for defining form...
متن کاملUncertain Spatiotemporal Logic for General Intelligence
Spatiotemporal reasoning is an important skill that an AGI is expected to have, innately or not. Much work has already been done in defining reasoning systems for space, time and spacetime, such as the Region Connection Calculus for space, Allen’s Interval Algebra for time, or the Qualitative Trajectory Calculus for motion. However, these reasoning systems rarely take adequate account of uncert...
متن کاملA Framework for Supporting the Application of Qualitative Spatiotemporal Reasoning
Numerical approaches for representing and reasoning about information are ineffective when data is too imprecise or uncertain. People on the other hand cope very effectively with vague information in daily life, for example when using spatial or temporal information. This has motivated the field of qualitative spatiotemporal reasoning (QSTR), which focuses on coarse, qualitative distinctions be...
متن کاملOccupational Therapists\' Clinical Reasoning: A Qualitative Study
Objectives: Clinical reasoning is at the heart of clinical work; it is affected by different field factors. A clear understanding of the reasoning process could solve practitioners' problems on how to make their underlying theories, assumptions and values more explicit. The aim of this research is to understand how clinical reasoning process is formed in the context of occupational therapists w...
متن کاملFactors affecting clinical reasoning of occupational therapists: a qualitative study
Background: Clinical reasoning is generally defined as the numerous modes of thinking that guide clinical practice but little is known about the factors affecting how occupational therapists manage the decision-making process. The aim of this qualitative study was to explore the factors influencing the clinical reasoning of occupational therapists. Methods: Twelve occupational therapy pr...
